Can any people that have second grill oening 1975 - 77 Fiberglass with metal inserts whaletails start checking this spot for part numbers.

Since this NON 2nd grill unit has the proper 911.512.010.07.

I would think the second grill units would have 930.512.010.01 (the same number is listed for both A/C (large 2nd grill) , and NON - A/C (small 2nd grill) in the PET. So I don't know what to say about that as they are 2 differant parts.

Anyway, like to see if anything is there at all.

Here's a glared from flash photo of the 911.512.010.07 stamping (you can get the gist) :

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1295998939.jpg

And if it's not in that spot , can you look around the tails hard. The 930 part number units had to be stamped somewhere , just as the 911 part number units seem to be.

Can people who have these (non 2nd grill) check for stampings also. And if you find a part number stamped , also report the single digit AFTER the triangle logo.

Thank you all in advance.

RatBox, you and I are on the same wavelength. I saw allot of good info on this For sale ad

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/586420-fs-factory-early-carrera-turbo-tail.html

It got me thinking about this thread again. I went and dug my 2 grill tail out of the shed and here are the pics.

Its all fiberglass it is about 1/3 the weight of the steel framed ones.
It does have a second grill with out any ducting. The grill is fastened by 3 pieces of metal that clamp the grill to the tail.
The part no is on the center piece by the latch it is 930 512 010.01 and nearly imposible to photograph. There is no digit after the P triangle.

Peon
Your link goes to the wrong place.
I'll check some of my tails for numbers.

Neat peon77 ,

Another version I have not seen before.

But now this brings up a new issue (or more acurately , an issue that has been brewing) . Why is your version stamped with the 930 part number . But J. Schaefers (which is basically the same unit , both with 2nd opening) stamped with the 911 number ?

Mystifying isn't it. It seems Porsche did not really keep a good cataloging by part number of differant variations. Not only are units that are clearly differant , marked with the same number . Units that are basically the same can then be marked with differant numbers also.

Either it's disorganisation with cataloging / numbering whaletails....... OR , the digit I pointed out after the Porsche logo (yes , that is a fancy "P" in the triangle , this is a Porsche Logo) is the mark , or lack of , differentiating them.

Notice these three tails all have a different last Digit ?

V , K , or nothing .

I know one thing for certain , that digit means something........at least where it is present.

If it did not mean anything . It would not exist ( be there ) on some.

Just speculation but is it possible that Porsche made the first production run off of stock deck lids until proper tooling was made up and a part number assigned.

The tail i have for the 94 turbo S is verified as a factory part and it along with all of the shrouds do not have any part numbers. I would assume this was done since so few were made and were made by the exclusive department. The only marking on the entire tail is the same one that appears after the 7 on the picture above. although this was pressed into fiberglass resin. here are pictures of my tail which has never been painted and a factory turbo S tail painted black.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1296052088.jpg

This last picture is of the shroud which has no markings at all but is identical to the piece used on a friends turbo S.

thanks
JP

group911@aol.co 01-26-2011 05:44 PM

It's on the hood pin metal like the ones above.
I see what you mean on the numbers but I wrote it down when I took the pic and it's consistent with the other numbers.
Also, after the Porsche triangle, there are no letters.

RatBox 02-08-2011 10:41 AM

Hello all,

Can someone check a 1975-77 930 A/C optioned whaletail (largest possible 2nd grill ) for a stamped part number in the groove of the cut off stub center support ?

Please post photo if you can. Or a least report , if you cannot get a photo happening. Please also note , if there is a digit stamped following the logo triangle.

Thx.

By the by , I'm looking for a metal shield like this . If anyone can help me out , PM me .

**Note - must be this version :

Can you post some pics from the bottom side?

giovanni86 02-08-2011 03:07 PM

mmmm

not at the moment... I will post pics as soon as possiblr

It has been coloured in white and the little opening has been closed...

is all fiberglass

I think it is not an original spoiler (I bought it for few money)

It comes from a 76 911s

giovanni86 02-08-2011 03:07 PM

what you think about?

RatBox 02-08-2011 04:07 PM

One more request.

If someone has a whaletail, which is a known original from a 1980 wiessach. Could you take some underside photos , with the shield removed ? And also check in the center support for a stamped part number , and possible following digit after the triangle ?

And post.

I would really like to examine one , for any possible differances between it and an earlier constucted non - 2nd grill unit. As I would believe some had to have been constructed in 1979.

I seriously doubt the factory had 400 units in reserve.

Hey,
I have one of those aftermarket 1994 turbo s tails. I was unsure what it was untill I read this thread.
