Replaced my front struts today...pretty easy job overall, took about 30 minutes per side. Used large channel locks to unscrew the old strut. Hard to compress the new strut to get it through the mounting hole up top, gently took a took a hammer to it to get it to compress . Old struts in there were Sachs, yuk...they moved up and down very easy, clearly shot. My ride height, however, did not change much, maybe 1/4". When I changed the rears shocks out about a month ago, ride height increased by about an inch.
Here's some pics of the finished product...now I have bilstein sports all around. ![]() ![]()

The questions live on.. 2012
Hello,
I decided to use the closest old thread rather than start a new one. I too have Boge struts (part.no.901-341-080-01 Right) on my 912 targa, 1969. It shares the same front shock layout as the later cars here, design is from 10/1968 to 1985, Bilstein part no. P36-0112. Some questions :
Here are some pictures of my strut in place ![]() ![]() and here of a Bilstein strut with the hole for the pin (inverted type) from Wayne Dempsey's Technical article and the 101 book. Last edited by csimeon; 02-21-2012 at 12:31 AM.. |
