My favorite mechanic is me, myself and I. Maybe it's because I never had to have a mechanic work on any of my vehicles. I always do my own work.

Kirberg Motors in Belmont, CA.

Ralph and Brian are top notch and a pleasure to deal with. If I happen be there on a Monday, I can also chat with the senior Kirberg about his days working for the factory on early spyder race cars.

Extra bonus: they have a complete set of Excellence mags in the office.

First Choice: European Auto Service in San Rafael, CA. Fred is amazing. That shop is a well oiled machine. It shows in his flawless work and dynamite customer service.

Second Choice: T&D Performance in Campbell, CA. Tom is very fair and knowledgeable. I like that he advises you on what's worth it and what's not, as if it were his own car. Maybe 1/2 step below Fred, but still very good.

Nick, Thank you for that post- well said. I am fortunate to know several good mechanics, Porsche and otherwise, and recommend Dave Bouzaglou at TRE for general Porsche care and performance work/ engine work. None of the good ones are cheap, but they are fair and generous with free advice and help for enthusiasts, including on this BBS. John Walker seems like a great guy too, but a little far from me. I know many good Porsche wrenches at dealer where I once worked, but they aren't very into hot-rodding or early cars. That is where TRE would tip the scales for me.

Hallo

Karl Wagner
Schwäbisch Hall

On from the last survivoirs. Was partialy in the race reparation and finally working on 8 & 12 Cyl race engines. Can rebuild a Fuhrman engine just by "feeling". Has many good stories and on the weekends you could find many interessting people standing in his workshop. Just "simple" mechanics like Metzger ( searching for old 911 parts ), Falk ( just to talk about old times and searching for Fuhrman race engines ) or Bott ( searching for old beetle and tractor parts ).

Karl Wagner is also invitet every year to the Porsche X-mas festivities and always had some small talks with the Dr.
Now the later didn´t work and the new head organisation are not interesstet to talk about past times.

There is nothing that will surprise him and whenever you have a problem on pre Electronic cars he has a magic idear or a work around ( if not then you know you have to start over ) plus he always find parts somwhere around his shop ( well that circle has some 100 mls ) if you ask friendly and he knows you "deserve" them.

If I would compare us then I just have enough knowledge to write a preface in his 1000 Page Porsche life lexicon.

Sad he never managed to get rich with his work, well I think I have the same problem. We are both not the people beleiving into money making we both beleive in good solid work witch costs to much time to back ( in several ways ) and people like us seem to grow out in germany as well.

Grüsse

Sounds like the Germanic equivalent of Harry Pellow.
