Removing clock

What is the most careful way of removing the clock? It been running fine except I need to find what is making the constant ticking and clicking sound under the dash.

If your car is newer than 1970 , just pull it out.

I used a flat blade screw driver wrapped in a cloth to pry it out. I was careful not to pry on the dash though. It came out rather easy once it started moving.

1 - is this a joke
2 - of your under thirty this could be confusing, as the clock is not digital
3 - if you put your ear to the clock you may hear clicking about every second
that means its working
4 - to remove the later model clock, just as the others said, screwdriver with cloth
over the tip and CAREFULLY work the clock out

Maybe the clicking is the sound from the OXS sensor mileage counter. What model 911?

No screwdriver. Try removing the speedometer with just your hand. Then push the clock out from the rear.

Guys, his problem is not with the clock--there is a ticking/clicking sound under the dash that he has been trying to track down ever since he's had a new starter installed (several posts on the topic over the last weeks.) Removing the clock appears to be his next step in tracking down the problem.

Gwl123, remove the clock in the least damaging way described above. Try to keep your search for a solution in one thread so all can follow your progress and offer suggestions when we find out what steps you have already taken. Do you still have the battery drain problem? Have you talked with the mechanic who did some rewiring to install your starter? Have you tracked down the correlation between the opening of the driver's door and the stopping of the click? The more feedback you give, the easier it will be to help.

Push it out from the back with a golf club. Use the handle end of the club and push it from the back through the trunk. No possibility of damage from a screw driver. Don't remember if you can do the clock directly or the gauge next to it but it works well.

Years ago, I bought a set of nylon "trim tools" to use for working on dashes, door panels, etc... They are a series of pry bars. I've been using one that looks like a small, blue prybar to remove both my oil pressure gauge and my speedo lately. Wonderful tools.

Good Luck.

check if the odometer and trip odometer number wheels are turning. my trip odo got stuck and the gears click. try hitting the trip reset button. if all is ok there pull out the tach or speedo and reset the o2 sensor counter. little black box with a reset button on it.

What if it's earlier?
Mine (1969 car) won't fit out the front. I have removed the rubber ring and it's loose, you can pry it out about 1/2" and then something butt's up from the back against the dashboard.

Heeelp??

The earlier cars had a brace in the back which must be removed before you can remove. It might be easier if you remove your cardboard cover in the trunk. You should be able to see the backs of the instruments to see if you have a brace. You'll need good light and skinny hands to get to it. There might be wires that are keeping you from pulling it out and this is a good way of seeing obstructions.
