Dashboard control ID?

These seem like pretty dim questions but I haven't a clue and my manhood isn't in danger.

Between the fuel and oil level gauges is a rocker switch.
Another between the clock and speedo.

And a hole (for a knob?) up high between the speedo and tach.

What do they do? What belongs in the empty hole?

The one on the right could be the headlight washer. The one on the left could be the selector switch for power mirrors.

The hole between the speedo and tach belongs to something else, Bill.
The knob between the clock and speedo diddles something in the wiper circuit when twisted. I can hear the relay click (or not, depending on knob rotation), though the wipers don't run in intermittent mode. I think there's a wiring problem or a bad park switch on the wiper motor. Normally I'd lean toward failed switch, but I've found a few wires where they didn't belong, so I can't rule that out.
The hole looks like it would fit a knob similar to the wiper control. Could it have been something for the cruise control? Usually they have a switch separate from the stalk on the steering column. I haven't been able to figure out how the cruise works, either, but that's a very low priority. Seems completely out of character for the car, IMHO.
Next time I pull a gauge, I'll have to look for ends of wires that go nowhere and see what colors they are. Might be a clue.

The "hole" between the speedo and tach is for the oxygen sensor warning light. I can feel it behind the leather cover, but my '84 didn't have the light, but it is in the '84 sales brochure.

My bad, I read "the hole, high between the speedo and clock", which is of course the interval setting for the wipers. My '76 Carrera has nothing between the speedo and tach.

I was into the dash again tonight, trying to sort out wiper issues. There's a lamp holder (I think that's what it is), no bulb in it, that both looks like it would fit the hole and happens to be hanging in about the right place.
Indicator for cruise?
I'll look further.
