Special race edition Vario Ram?
Hey All:
I have been led to believe that there are a few special Racing edition VarioRam intakes. As the story goes, Porsche made some intakes that look just like a stock Vario, but the entire system is larger in inside Diameter. Now I happen to have 3 Vario Ram intakes. I have done a search here on the part numbers but nothing comes up. But, Ironically one of the sets of runners is actually 3.5mm wider in ID from the other two. It also happens to be significantly darker in color. So can anyone shed some light on this? The Varioram main bodies have part numbers of: 993.110.184.or 993.110.181.4r 993.110.183.4r And the runners are: 993.110.181.4r 993.110.182.1r 991.110.181.4r now the runner ending in 182.1r is the larger one. Additionally the body ending in 184.or is cast differently, in that there are re-enforcement risers cast into the bottom of the casting. Also, there is an additional stamp that says AZ91. So any thoughts? Thanks Andy |

RS which were made from '95 had larger magnesium versions, the normal 3.6 v-rams from '96 used slightly smaller aluminum versions

The magnesium RS runners were 3mm larger ID and meant to match up to the RS heads which have matching ports.
Operationally speaking, these are homologation specials and as such, do nothing for normal 3.6's or 3.8's using stock or RS cams and the OEM intake systems. A properly built 3.6 or 3.8 can make 300-310 BHP with RS cams, RS intake valves, good software, and decent exhaust. 320+ with a race exhaust, and all with stock 993 heads.
