Cruise Conrol Rebuild service

Has anybody used ATE on e-bay for cruise control brain rebuild?

I'm thinking about it.

Here's their listing on e-bay:

PORSCHE 911 928 CRUISE CONTROL COMPUTER 92861712700 : eBay Motors (item 110504710783 end time Apr-08-10 17:00:00 PDT)

Thoughts?

Ken

Most of the problems with the cruise control module are simply cold solder joints. My cruise control didn't work. I opened it up and reflowed the solder on the IC's and transistors and any other suspect parts. There was nothing obvious that stood out. After the reflow of solder, my cruise control works to this day.

At one time, our host had someone that does rebuilds. You may want to check.
I didn't know it and had mine done by Beckmann Technologies back in 2004 and they did great work and got it back to me fast. It cost more than the one you are looking at but I am leary of anything found on flea-bay. Make sure there aren't any "oh, by the way" fees. It should be a flat fee regardless of what needs to be done.

A few years ago my cruise control problem turned out to be the clutch release switch wasn't in adjustment and the CC saw the clutch as always depressed. bending the little bracket made it all better again.

Just something simple to check before sending off the unit.

I posted before looking at the service they provide. I don't think you can beat that price and warranty. I wouldn't bother resolidering mine if I knew about them.
$89.00 for a rebuild and warranty, can't beat it.

We've discussed cruise control problems ad nauseum years ago. As it turns out, there are various potential problems. In other words, the "brain" is not the only problem. For example, the problem of the cruise control acting too aggressive and hunting without success for a good throttle position, is one problem. Speed erosion over time is another. I've experienced both problems. If my cruise control system could work properly, I'd reinstall it.
