Went for a drive today

Good weather in the Great North West so I went for a drive. 250 miles later, I arrived back home. That's it, nothing went wrong, everything worked fine, everything. That might not sound strange but I have been driving my car (81SC) daily for the past several years, just did the brakes (ugg) and switched to carbs about 1000 miles ago. Other than routine maintenance, nothing is wrong. We had a great winter here so I drove it every day, it just keeps going!
I might have jinxed it now but the car is so impressive and predictable that I'm at a loss of what to do to it next? Might start on the suspension or some minor body work or just keep driving it. For a 30 year old car, I just say wow. Oh, yes it could use a transmission rebuild but hey that just adds class! Any suggestions? I might wash it.

Great feeling

James you know I took mine for a spin yesterday about 120 miles and had a great drive no issues at all just a wonderful drive, made such a difference getting the clutch done recently. Mine could also use some transmission work but as you say it adds character. Came home noticed the steering column was a bit wobbly so did my DIY copper bushing fix and all is again well. Dont you just love the bulletproof dependability and that in a 28 year old car with 150,000 miles on the clock.

I too took out my '88 yesterday for the first time I didn't get the chance to change the oil before winter so I warmed her up with a little drive around the block then did the change. After that I headed out for a few hrs. No issues, hiccups or surprises. I was actually pretty surprised by that. It had been sitting since November and I did hand push it a round a bit so the tires wouldn't get a little flat spot. Again, amazing for these cars to not skip a beat!

Great subject!

I've been driving it to work and so far no issues... in months. I'm a little scared... and I plan on bringing it to Hershey in a month. I will do valve adjust before that though.

I took mine out last week for an evening drive. I had already done my oil change.

The weather was 65 degrees here and it ran perfectly.

Ok, I had a marker light issue that turned into a wiring PAI but I still can't wait to get out for a drive. It's going to be 50 today so maybe this afternoon if the sun dries the roads enough.(Yeah, I know I can wash it but it's clean right now and I don't want to wash it again.)

A friend of mine is a "tuner" and has, yes, a Honda. All his buds complain about the little bits and fittings failing on there new to 10 year old cars. Of course there highly modified (like ours) but they just don't hold up to abuse like Porsche cars do. Over engineering is a good thing!! Oh, where will those Honda's and Toyota's be in 30 years?? Junk yard me think. Lets keep ours running.

Great weekend in DC!

We are having a great weekend in the DC area as well. My SC has set for a couple of months with all of the snow and once I jumped the car to get it started after a dead battery it ran like a top - no better feeling!!

Went for a blast yesterday down one of my favorite roads which happens to be about 50 seconds from my garage. Got the intake back on a few weeks ago. Oil change, valve adjust along with new plugs, cap and rotor. It's running a little rich and seems to have a slight miss at idle but with the new injectors and the intake leaks fixed, this thing is flying. I am shocked at it's ability to keep on going and I havn't babied it the last thirteen years. I keep her maintained well but I'm not scared to push it around the back roads.
I have everything to do my turbo conversion but I am a little scared at how quick she will be....I am going to have to learn how to drive all over again. The tires will easily break loose in second now so I know I'm in for a suprise and education. I really love this car!!!

1st Spring drive

I started my 911 on Sunday for the first time since early November. After work today I took it for 30 minute romp. Car ran great, clutch feels a little strange as I have been driving a Mazda 6 with 5 speed all winter. Looking forward to warmer weather and a long weekend drive. Time to order a gasket set for the post top end rebuild valve adjustment. Should be a great summer for my freshened 911.

Got my motor back in, rebuilt all 4 calipers, fired it up and was sooooo tempted to go for a spin Saturday, but i decided that putting Neatrix bushings in would be more fun......NOT.

Some of you might remember my story last year about the unfortunate event of missing a deer only to run over the base of a construction pylon. The pylon caused a bent driver's side strut housing. Had to leave the car out in Rapid City at my father-in-law's house. Well, my work schedule got the better of me for the next 6 months and the car basically sat all that time out there, other than going to a local shop for the repair. Finally got out there 7 months after the incident. She fired right up. Oil had just been changed prior to the unfortunate road trip, so basically washed her, fixed the broken driver's side mirror, and drove her home 1500 miles to Jackson, TN... with no issues at all. Please excuse me while I find a large piece of wood to knock on!

Great story except the 6 - 7 months the car is out. I would love to drive this thing for 1500 miles. I need to get rid of my wife and 3 kids. lol thanks.
