Weber IDS or Zenith 40TIN on '69 S Engine?

Of course MFI would be my first choice.

I currently have Weber 40IDS carbs on my '69 S engine.

Recently acquired a set of Zeniths with a '68 engine.

I was planning on selling the Zeniths but may consider running them and selling the Webers.

I would appreciate any insights or opinions.

Performance of the engine and resale value of the extra carbs are considerations.

The 68 engine will also be for sale.

The IDS carbs are the highest-value item you list. Check the classifieds here, these regularly sell for a LOT of money due to the rare high-speed enrichment circuit, used only on the 67S and 68S (Euro).

Why not sell the IDS the Zeniths and put the proceeds into a 69S MFI system? The limitation of that is that rebuilding the pump is about $1500 and rebuilding the throttle bodies and stacks is about $1500. That is over and above what you have to put into the core 69S pump and stacks. A used pump may not need a rebuild: a used set of stacks probably WILL.

Anyway, people do use the Zeniths for performance applications, but this isn't very common-- and the Zeniths have a pretty low resale value.

Limits with Zeniths are the lack of parts and other than jets, not many options other than rebulding them. Weber parts are better but going with MFI sounds like the way to go. Sell everything and look for all the MFI parts. Might be some good deals out there. Check with the MFI guys.

Current market on IDS carbs

FS: rare Weber 40 IDS carbs

I sold a pair 18 months ago with manifolds for $2000. That was a "buddy" deal.

I sold my IDS in a buddy deal 18 months ago - good runner, minor shaft play, for $1400. Worth your time to sell the parts and go for MFI.

Thanks for the votes on selling the carbs and going with MFI! I like that option.

I had only considered going with what I had.

For the sake of discussion, let's say MFI isn't currently a viable option but may someday be a possibility.

I welcome any more thoughts. The Zeniths were removed and stored at least 15 years ago and appear to be in fine shape. I understand I'd need bigger venturies. What else?

Interestingly, I just received a call from Zim's inquiring about Zenith parts. Who are our Zenith guys here?

Well I have a set of Zenith's on my 3.0 engine. Got the vents made from pcar9119, He makes them on a CNC machine and does a great job. That's the only way to get them as only the stock vents are made by Zenith. The rebuld kits are sold by our host. the idle and main jets are the same as Solex uses and on ebay. Other than that, they should fit and work just fine. Several others have posted about upgrading Zenith's.

My 2 cents - I used to have Zeniths (now in shed) and now have Weber IDA's (not as good as IDS's, but a comparison of sorts). The Weber's were a noticable and dare I say large performance increase over the Zeniths. Nothing wrong with the Zeniths, but I would go the Webers first.

Of all the tinkering I have done to the car (new extractors, new exhaust, fancy plugs/leads/coils, etc) the Webers provided the most distinct difference.
