I can't get the starter bolt out?? Help.
How long is this bolt on the top of my 901 trans? It spins with some resistance but I have been doing if for a while now. The bottom nut to the starter came out easy. Any tricks? I trying to remove the trans. Anyone want to buy a 67 912? I'm getting a little frustrated!
Thanks,

It just takes a lot of patents some times.
The top two fasteners on a 912 (and 356) are nuts & bolts. Early (’65-’71) 911s have two bolts that thread into the crankcase. Fortunately, the 2.4s started having all four fasteners as studs semi-permanently threaded into the crankcase. This way there are only nuts and washers – no bolts. The only significant aggravation with the later hardware is if some PO leaves off the washers under the internal hex barrel nuts. This leaves the stud protruding into the internal hex, preventing full (any) engagement of the Allen wrench. pita. Hang in there. Best, Grady

Thanks for the information. I am taking out the trans because it's stuck in Reverse. I tried all the simple fixes (bushings on the shifter and coupler) with no luck. I can move the arm inside that is positioned by the fork/inspection plate... By pushing it I can move the car in neutral. I'm hoping something simple. There is not any broken gears on the bottom of the case. I'm crossing my fingers. Thanks again. Jim
