Can't get rear of Shift Base flush...help
Hey guys, I've just finished an install of the WEVO classic, and I'm not able to get the rear of the shift base flush, or sitting flat on the shifter tunnel.
I have the "L" bracket for the shift rod bushing mounted to the shifter base (so there is a tongue above the car's shift tunnel that's attached to the shifter base) and I can't seem to get the shifter base flush, even though all allen bolts are tightened down... What am I doing wrong? This does allow the shifter base to rock left/right slightly when shifting, and I want to fix that. Thanks for any help! ![]()

The "L" bracket goes below the tunnel.
This will allow the shifter to sit flush on the tunnel.

Study the instruction sheet (kind of hard to see) but the L bracket does go below the shifter IN the tunnel

I'm really at a loss here... The two bolts that will attach the "L" bracket to the shifter are not long enough to grab hold of the bracket if it's below the tunnel. And there is a notch in the bottom of the shifter base the exact width of the "L" bracket. See photo below
If I could possibly attach the "L" bracket to the shifter base with the "L" bracket below the tunnel, wont the tunnel's lip cause the "L" bracket to angle badly and cause the shift rod to bind in the bushing? There were no paper instructions with the WEVO shifter, and the only PDF instructions do not have a diagram with the "L" bracket's position. This is what the instructions say: "The WEVO Shifter should now be sitting flat on top of the tunnel, although possibly not in a lateral position that will allow all the three M8 bolts to be installed. Locate and install the two original M6 screws that attach the shift tube axial bearing – the free floating ‘L” shaped bracket - under the Shifter base. This is essential before final positioning. Locate the Shifter base over the three M8 threaded holes in the tunnel. If this can not be achieved without movingthe Gear lever against the spring force of the brass Detent plungers, it will be necessary to adjust the shift tube coupler." I take this to mean that you attach the "L" bracket to the shifter with the M6 screws, then place the shifter on the tunnel for alignment...which is how I did it the first time. I don't see any way to install this shifter and "L" bracket other than flush to the shifter base, which puts the "L" bracket above the tunnel. But then I don't understand why the shifter base doesn't sit flush like that... A simple diagram in the instructions would sure have helped. I'm going to reinstall it like I had so I can drive to work tomorrow, and maybe give WEVO a call. ![]() ![]()

use longer machine screws - you can substitute the stock ones later if you want - and just put each one part way in (loose) until you get them all in
rattle the thing around and curse at it for awhile and it will work out |

I just spoke with the good blokes over at Windrush/WEVO and the did confirm that the L bracket indeed is installed above the tunnel, directly to the shifter base where the L bracket's tongue fits into the shifter base's groove.
I will again make sure that there is no debris in between all the surfaces and hopefully get everything nice and flush. I'm curious though, how/why others are installing the L brackets bellow the shifter tunnel and how that doesn't bind the shift rod's bushing..?? My car is a 78 SC, so maybe there's a difference in other year models? - CraigD

Sorry CraigD, I was confuse with the Rennshifter:
Install RennShift Bolt the shifter base on to the housing, positioning the reverse feature in the same quadrant as reverse gear (left front for 901, right rear for 915). 911 and 914 tail shift: Clean out the old bushing and grease from the socket for the ball cup bushing. Make sure the small hole on the side of this cup is clear, as it can be plugged with dried grease. Check the socket head setscrew (on the left side of the socket) to be sure it is tight. Slide the rod bushing bracket forward so it can drop into the tunnel. Grease the socket and lower the new shifter into position, inserting the ball cup into its socket. Start the 2 new 6mm socket head capscrews with flat washers into the rod bracket holes and lightly tighten. Install the 3 new 8mm capscrews with flat washers. Tighten all the fasteners. Should have read the post.....
