Jack, or anybody who might know, what kind of seats are those? Where can I find them? Doing the interior this spring.

he has the Corbeau Targa RS seats which are pretty nice. I want a set for my car as well. I called a Corbeau distributor and they said that the Targa RS only came in black cloth. I want leatherette or vinyl so I am going to have to do some more digging. Hey Rj, are you back home yet or still deployed?

Corbeau will cover them in leather, for an additional fee. I understand the leather about triples the price!

My seats are the Corbeau Targa RS. At something like $300/seat in cloth, they're pretty affordable. Cover them in leather, though, and the price more than doubles. I found this pair on ebay -- brand spankin' new, for only a little more than the cloth-covered price. But... I probably wouldn't get them again. They look like race seats, but really function more like ordinary street seats. Not a whole lot of support and depth to them. I've since had a submariner belt slot added, and I've cut a couple of inches of padding out of the base for a deeper seating position. It's better, now. But like I said, if I had to do it again, I'd make certain that I sat in a bunch of different models of seats, by a bunch of different manufacturers, before I made my final choice.

Try the Monaco RS seats. They look just like the seats in Jacks. I have them in my SC and they provide alot of support. The cost is comporable and they come in Leatherette, cloth or leather.

You helped "moved us in" huh... Well for that I must thank you sir, from the bottom of my little heart... (The precedeing statement was meant to be read, dripping with sarcasm. I really would like to have my recaro sport seats recovered. Those are nice seats but I just don't know if I can justify the additional costs. I do like the Corbeau Targa RS and the Konig 5000s though. Rj, when you decide to do your interior, let me know. That's my next project as well.

Leland, I sold those Linen power seats and bought Sparco Milano's. I think they are about 1/2 inch shorter than Jacks, Corbeaus. But I'm in about the same situation as Jack. Still a little tall. I should have followed Steve Wieners advice. To get a lower seating position, you have to go with Recaro SRD's. But at the time they were on a 6 month back order. I should have been patient. The Sparco's and the Recaro's are the same price. The Sparco's look and feel great. But I'd like to find about 1 - 1 1/2 inches, still. Wayne sells the Sparco's here. Speedware in Seattle sells Recaros.

Leland, car's in the paintshop now, with the interior out. The tax free is adding up so I'm thinking I might as well do it now. I've got the Targa bar off and at the powdercoat shop with all the trim pieces and the doorhandles. If you wanna give me a shout on the NIPR it's rj.cilurso@psab.af.mil. I really like the look of the seats but not right to judge on looks alone as testified here. I need to go to more events and sit in some cars. I've got a guy who works with leather here. Wonder if these companies would sell me just the shells?

I haven't had a chance to inspect a lot of seats, but some of the aftermarket seats I've seen are built like XXit. They look nice and racy with seat belt guides and high bolsters, and they might even feel comfortable, but take a look at how they're made. I'm talking about seats for a street car, the kind that fold forward, not race seats like the Kirkeys or racing Recaros. Many I've seen have little structure in the seat back. Press on the back seat panel and see if there's a metal structure under the fabric, an indication the manufacturer isn't scrimping on the build quality. Many are hollow or layered with cardboard, then leather or cloth. Seat back pivots should be pretty substantial too. In case someone rear ends you, you'll want a chair that isn't going to collapse, otherwise you wind up in the back seat with your head out the back window. There was some testing awhile back and at the time, there weren't any federal regs. about seat back strength. Seems that a lot of passenger cars had/have seats that are as strong as lawn chairs in a rear collision. I still don't know if there are federal regs. regarding seat back strength. Factory seats are heavy, maybe for this purpose. However, there are lighter, more comfortable and supportive seats out there that are probably as safe. Recaros are nice. Sherwood Lee | ||
