A/C question
Ok so I'm re-installing A/C on my car. In the mean time I'm also converting to R134a. So I bought a cheap vacuum pump to evacuate the system from Harbor Freight. The vacuum out is a screw adapter. My question is where do I get a hose to run from there to the 134 fitting on the low side of the pump ? Should be cheap but I can't find anything..
Suggestions?

If you have an AC gauge set, there should be a hose to connect to a vacuum pump. You do need to make sure you have the correct fittings as R12 and R134a use different sizes. My vacuum pump came with an R12 fitting and I had to buy the R134a fitting separately. Also, the gauge sets come in R12 or R134a so you have to have the right one.

Thanks Steve, so If I spend the money on a gauge set it will have what I need ? Guess I'll dump another $50 into the project !!

I have the HF set and it came with a hose. You do have to check that your vacuum pump fitting is correct and you have to buy the R134a adapters for you AC compressor (permanent adapters that fit over the R12 fittings) unless you have upgraded to an R134a specific compressor.

i had to search 2 towns to find 1 adpater to connect 134 gages to an r12 pump.
i got lucky not long ago. i bought a set of gages from advance or auto zone that had the 134 fittings, but they unscrew to r12 fittings. the gages will not likely come with any adapter to connect 134 to r12.

Which car are you talking about? I'm guessing that putting R134a into an old system will give you hose (non-barrier) and seal probelms. I'd talk to someone who knows.
