Life is great with as new fuel pump!
..........when they say, "don't get stranded with a bad fuel pump", they aren't kidding!
That happened to me last weekend in rush hour traffic in a busy part of Atlanta. I ran a thread inquiring as to the operation of the pump and many chimed in asking to keep them informed of the outcome. I installed a rebuilt Bosch unit for my 1973.5T/CIS 2.4 years ago. The pump on this car is mounted in the rear left wheel well, above the halfshaft. As a result its pulling and pushing fuel with a hot engine and tranny vibrating closeby. Hot start takes its toll on these pumps unlike the forward mounted units. One of Porsche's design flaws for this year model. I installed a new Pierberg (OEM) pump. The 73.5T pump requires a fore and aft configuration in mounting unlike the side mounting as up front on newer models. Some alteration of the fittings are required. It has made an incredible difference in performance! Like kickin a swift horse in the butt. ![]() If your pump is noisy (thats the biggest sign of trouble) or your intermittently smelling fuel..................be cautious because thats what you'll get before its JUST STOPS! Congrats. It sound like you sorted out your fittings and you're back on the road. I did the 5 hour trip to Winston-Salem for meetings today. A/C nice and cool the whole way!

Hey Mark.
Missed you at the Avenue show sunday..............packed again. Would you believe they stopped you coming into the Avenue for a one-dollar contribution!! Apparently so many are coming to the event, many are leaving trash, parking on grassed spots, and peeling rubber exiting the show that they had to double security and pay for clean up!! I fear this may be terminated if this continues. The residents across the street are complaining as well about the noise. Suddenly both lots fill up by 0900. I found some extra copper washers for the banjo fitting and got the pump on. I had to adjust my mixture much leaner because of the pressure increase, but I believe the pump lacks a check valve and hot start is a hassle again as it takes time getting the injectors energized. Glad to hear the trip went well and your AC is holding up. I hope you got the mounts back on alignment. Let me know if you need help. Bob |

I've learned that one should take a "preventative" approach to maintenance sometimes,...just for piece of mind. Fresh O2 sensor (an replacement interval called-for in the Bentley), etc.
If I 'm looking at parts that are NOW 21 years old (in my case), it's simply time to render some fresh, new hardware,..and tuck away the "functioning" 21 year old parts (such as fuel pump, CHT, speed/ref sensors,..many others....)...I consider it "paying forward".... Best, Doyle
