RSR (pics included)
Hi everyone, Chris Collier here,
I was over at the shop last night working on my 72 911T project, and another customer's car was sitting there. Thought that I would share some pics for those of you that like the RSR. This is a dealership metal conversion that was performed in 73. Evidentally the customer bought a 911S, and two months later decided to take it back to the dealer and had the factory RSR body panels installed. The Winning Formula, here in Louisville, completed the recent restoration of the engine, oil cooler, interior, etc. At least my 911 is in good company ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Enjoy!!!!

Wow now thats sweet!
You mention a shop called, "The Winning Formula." Are they like a Porsche specific shop or what? I'm looking for a place to have my transmission rebuilt.

The Winning Formula
Mike Winebrenner, is the owner of The Winning Formula (and fellow P Car owner!!!) His shop is best described as: -Import Specialists -Vintage Race Car Restoration -Track Car Preparation -Custom Fabrication -Specialty Part Craftsmanship Along with Mike's drive for perfection when it comes to work; his extensive knowledge of period "authenticity"; and his ability to rationally achieve anything that his clientele can invision; His knowledge of engine and transmission tuning is unsurpassed; Working along side him, he has on staff a True Craftsman when it comes to the meticulous re-production of specialty parts, non production parts, one-off items, aluminum fabrication, working in specialty metals, and the ability to source-out obscure materials for authentic reproduction. You name it, or think it, they will make it!! I have never been short of astounded when making visits to his facility. I see alot of cars being restored to their original, elegant, but purposefully built states. It is amazing to me the ability of his talents, which is exemplified in the results.I was over there last night until 9:30 watching a truck be offloaded of vintage engines, tubs, spindles, etc.(I don't necessarily know all that I was looking at, but sensing the enthusiasm from everyone there, it had to be some great stuff) I guess I will watch and learn as all these crates of parts become a part of Racing History Restored. Back to the original question about Porsches. It is my honest opinion that like every car that passes through his doors.........All of our Porsches could benefit from the knowledge, care, and expertise that is exhibited at the Winning Formula. I have seen many 911s being rebuilt on their benches. Numerous trannys that go out as tight as the day the left Germany........so in short, your Porsche, whether it undergoes a complete resto., a complete engine overhaul, tranny rebuild, or the conversion into a Track Car is safe within the hands of the professional at The Winning Formula. Give Mike a call, I can guarantee you this: Honesty, Good Communication, and an end Result worthy of your beloved Porsche. By the way, tell him that Chris sent'ya!!!!

That's a very nice looking 911! I'm not an RSR expert by any means, but are those genuine RSR flares? They look like Turbo flares to me due to the more-pronounced vertical lip. I thought there was a difference. Can anyone verify this?

That was a conversion done in '73, so how could have they been Turbo flares?
It was not exactly common, but done at a few dealerships in '72-'73, as one conversion to a '72 911E for a service manager's personal car in Atlanta that was documented in Road & Track. The non-painted wide Fuchs were often added, too, as the painted wheels hadn't arrived on these shores at the time! Seemed pretty exotic at the time to me!

That's my point Warren. They look like Turbo flares which would mean it couldn't have been done in 73. I'm probably wrong and I have no reason to doubt the story, but the photos I've got of RSR's show a slightly different lip around the wheel wells?? -- Curt

does this car have sheel seats? If so I owned it for a few months. John Thomas (Otis Chandler's buddy) converted his black 911S way back when. He had polished 9 and 11 fuchs on it, an S front spoiler (like this one) and originally an IROC tail. We sold it to Dale Hersh in So Cal, who eventually resold it. I last saw it at the Dunkel Swap and Show last year.

Looks kinda like Black Beauty on Roids
Looks like the two cars are the same based on the fact they both have late model mirrors. Dave, youve had way to many toys for one guy. ![]() Michael Marshall |

That's a bad ride, Dave. What is IROC spoiler? Ducktail? I forgot to ask you at shop last week, did you sell the monster 930 advertised here?

Sweet looking cars. Oh baby, Im drooling.
They might not be the same though. One has Euro style lights and they seem to have different wheels. Of course that doesnt mean they are not the same car. Its nice to RSRs in black though. They are normally white in the pics I have seen. Alex.

Yep, the pix from Dunkels is our former car. MotoLita wheel, the Scheels, etc.
Dale Hersh or his buyer probably removed the whaletail we had on the car. The duck is so much better ! Another clue to the NC car, being the same, would be to check out the passenger door for traces of a once installed power mirror. Incorrectly installed, you can easily see the welded up holes thru the 2 horizontal access holes on the upper inner front edge. Boy that was ugly! |

I just checked my original copy of R&T from an Aug. 73 comparison of a 911S and Carrera RSR I'll be da*'* if I can see a difference between the above and the magazine pics(admittedly not the best images ever published)
