Talking FUCHS 944? TO '83SC

I am still waiting for some pic's and part numbers of 7's and 8's from a seller of a non-911 P-car (I think he said the wheels are off an '86 944). I have searched the DB for serial numbers to match upon receipt of pics and #'s.

However, does anyone know that Fuchs are interchangeable between P-cars? Are there fuchs made specifically for the 911, specific to 944, etc.?

I would like to visually see these wheels tomorrow morning and that is why I am jumping the gun posting my 'HHHEEEEELLLLP'!

As long as the fronts are +23mm offset and the rears are +10.6 mm offset they will fit fine. These #s are the ET #s embossed on the back of one of the paddles. The ET +23 front is for either 7" or 8" widths. The ET +10.6 is for 8" rears only. 9" rears are ET +15 mm. 15" or 16" diameters make no difference.

read bruce anderson's suggestions...

he says the 944 are good for the front...and 930's for the rear so you have a 8 and 9 setup

82SC,

So I take it that:

1. the 944 7's & 8's will fit the SC; and,
2. using these, I end up having 8 and 9 setup even though the wheels are "physically" 7 and 8.

Just out of curiosity, what is the title of B. Anderson's book so I may purchase it?

Here's the deal:

The "hot setup" is to have 8x16 Fuchs in the front and 9x16 Fuchs in the rear. The rear is easy, your choice comes from the 930 turbo. The offset is 10.6mm "911 offset".

For the front the biggest Fuchs you can shove in the "911 offset" is the 7x16. A 8x16 911 wheel will stick out too far.

So, the trick is to get a "944 offset" 8x16. The "944 offset" is 23.3mm. Visually from the outside it looks like a 911's 7x16 but the extra inch is on the inside, so you end up with a real 8" rim on the front.

As far as the "944 offset" 7x16 I'm not sure if this is of any real value for a 911 application. As far as I know it is not a popular option for 911's.

Orbmedia,
There is only 1 offset available in 7x15 or 7x16 Fuchs. It is +23mm, the difference between a 944 and 911 wheel is mostly related to caliper room(back of the spokes), and is clearly identifiable at the front because of the deeply recessed bolt holes.

There are 2 different offsets for the 8x16 Fuchs they are +23mm as used on the 944 and which also includes extra caliper room. The other is the +10.6mm offset 911 wheel. As I stated previously any +23mm offset wheel WILL work well on the front of a 72-89 911. No, the +10.6 will not work on the front, it will stick out too far(it was designed for the back of a SC/Carrera).

The correct offset of the 930 rear 9x16 is +15mm. It also uses the deeply counter sunk bolt holes.

Yes, the "hot setup is the 8x16(+23mm offset) front and the 9x16(+15mm offset) rear. Unless of course 17's are used(this is even hotter due to wider tire availability)

In addition the offset recomendations do not change for different rim diameters. Though custom offsets, as used by Fikse, Kinesis et al. will facilitate special installations(usually using larger than normal rims or tires)
