lug pattern and offset question

PLEASE FORGIVE MY IGNORANCE!

ok..i know a '76 uses the 5X130...

and the offset is 23mm front and rear correct?

as offset increases, that pushes the wheel out right?

im wondering, off of what cars can i use its wheels? (i know some may need spacers because of different offsets) i ask because i may need and extra set of wheels, and if i went to a salvage yard (or even bought a set of wheels for another car for less $$$) i want to know what to look for...

5 lug cars off the top of my head...bmw's, rx7's 92-up preludes..any of these fit? ive seen wheels for these cars (from stock to aftermarket) for rediculously low prices!!

TIA

A wheel with no offset has its mounting surface egually spaced between the inner and outer rim of the wheel. A positive offset moves that surface outward toward the outer rim. So if you bought a wheel with more positive offset you could make up for it with spacers to get the wheel back to the original place so to speak. Negative offset actually moves the wheel outward from the car.
Mercedes, BMW , Audi all have 5 lug wheels but the diameter of the lug pattern is smaller. 112m to be exact. I'm not sure what Porsche is though.
It's definently a buyers market on Mercedes wheels because so many people that buy new Mercedes pull them off and replace them with 17's and 18's. But they don't fit Porsche.

I believe that Porsche is the only car that uses 5x130, at least thats what Ive been told many times.
