Calling all Electrical experts...Electrical Issue!!

SO the car was running fine a couple days ago until I went to start it, once I turned the ignition key one click all the interior lights came on fine as usual but when I went to turn on the car all i heard was one click (engine did not start) and all the lights turned off. So the car had no power at all, no headlight no interior light ...it was completley dead. I checked the battery and it was drained, yesterday I put a new battery in, the interior lights came back on but it did the same exact thing once I tried to turn it on again, it did one click and all the lights turned off. I took the positive off the battery and put it back on and the interior lights turned on again but when i tried to turn it on it did the same exact thing again, so I have to keep disconnecting the battery and reconnect just to get the lights to come on, but the engine just clicks and doesnt even attempt to start. The alternator and starter are both getting power ...Anyone have any ideas???? Would the starter/alternator/regulator be bad, all interior fuses have been checked....thanks for your help

Do you have a Bentley and a multimeter?

sounds like a poor connection or ground. You don't mention the type of P-car you have, so I'll assume it's a Carrera because of your site name. Have you cleaned and tightened the battery posts and cables? The wires to your starter/solenoid? And most of all, have you checked your ground cluster at intake runner #1?

You could go to Home Depot and get a wire brush in the plumbing dept that is meant to clean interior copper pipe fittings and clean the inside of your battery terminals.

not enuff - batt. should read higher when not in use

check again -- on each terminal, dig the probe tip in deep and move it around so you make a small shiny dent in the lead terminal

if it reads that low again, then it is new battery time; get a sealed one

if bad batt. no reason to clean terminals first, clean them when you replace it
