Late 915 side cover swap

Hello guys,

I want to swap the side cover on one late 915 transmission with oil pump for an non-pump one.

I can carefully remove the bearing race from the side cover and press it in the new one.
What tolerances should I check for possible adjustment ?

Thank you,
Tasos

I believe you need to set the ring & pinion, in the same way as you would if swapping the diff. Which is done via shims, and requires a special tool (there's a great thread here P258 Any intrest in a repo. on making your own, and that thread has links to other threads with good info on the subject - like the problems if you don't do it right).

I had my 40/65 LSD fitted by a great guy with decades of experience. It was really rather painless.

Pinion depth shouldn't be an issue but I would think carrier bearing preload and pinion backlash should be checked before and after.
