Trouble insuring European Vin# w/state farm

Have a 85' Cab that was grey marketed back in 85'. It has always had the 'ZZZ' in the vin# which apparently indicates it's grey market orgin to my insurance company (Farmer's). Has anyone with a grey market 911 had this same trouble? Solutions?
Thanks in advance.

I ran into this but it was resolved pretty quickly. They called me a few times and asked for a few documents but it was resolved fairly quickly. I also have an 85 grey market Cab insured with State Farm.

jibmaster1,

Take your 911 and your paperwork documentation for a WA DMV ‘VIN Inspection’ from the Washington State Patrol.
Vehicle Identification Inspections - Washington State Patrol
Get two ‘certified’ copies (one for Farmer's and the other for you).

This will forever prevent any misinterpretation of the ‘ZZZ’.

Best,
Grady

I am considering going to state farm, and am wondering if you that are using them are getting agreed value coverage?

Cheers Richard

Have your "agent" take care of it. His job is to represent you to Farmers. If he is uncooperative, there are lots of other insurance firms out there.
If it is State Farm, as in your heading, I would start shopping around. Have you ever filed a claim with State Farm?

State Farm hasn't insured grey market cars for many years. I tried perhaps 10 years ago and was told absolutely no. My agent tried (he's got homeowners on two homes, 4 cars, trailer) and hit a dead end too. So I ended up not buying the car.

And FWIW, in more than 20 years with State Farm, there's never been a claim whether homeowners or car that was a problem. Always handled well and to our satisfaction. In fact, working an ice dam water claim right now and they've already approved pulling off the siding and installing new windows. But that's probably a long standing relationship with our agent too.

I have a gray market 81 SC registered in WAshington State and insured by Farmers... I do have a WA State vin number assigned when the car was imported to ensure that the federalization of the car was acceptable to WA State. Have had no problems, Farmers does recognize and use the WPOZZZ vin number. Make you agent work for his money, my agent took car of everything for me.
