re curving dizzy?
Hi Guys,
I'm pretty new at this but is there a DIY on recurving your distributor? I heard you can recurve a 3.0 by 28 degrees and was wondering if someone can advise me the right direction to someone who can (to send out). Also is there any threads to understand more about this? Been trying to find one in the search forums but having a hard time. Many thanks. ![]() |

Thanks guys! This is the first time I'm doing something this technical. I've only done: brakes, suspension, plugs, oil changes, fluids, accumulator, frquency valve, etc. I'm not a handy man but I can do the basics. So since this is the first time doing this I was wondering if someone help me with these few questions.
1) I'm running a 3.0 from an 80 in my 74 911. all stock except a cat bypass and muffler. Since it has CIS still I was advised to recurve only 28 degrees. Does that make sense? Something about CIS running too lean for an agressive curve. 2) I don't plan on getting carbs so does 28 degrees seem right? 3) I'll be sending out my distributor to get it done but the cap/rotor are all new. After getting it recurved how do I reinstall it? Sorry for the stupid questions but want to make sure I do this right. What is the step by step prodecure? If anyone has a thread for this where I can review? 4) All your advice is greatly appreciated. ![]() |

Jerry Woods in CA. did one of mine. Barry did the other. Be prepared for sticker shock as each charged aprox. $500.00 for full rebuild/recurve/etc. for my 3.0's with carbs. I am happy with the performance of both.

Mine was $550 with Barry... But came back like brand new. If it lasts 100k miles... that about another 25 years... not bad when put like that...

For less than half that price you can convert to an electronic distributor-less system and program your own vacuum "curve". and enter the 20th century! (Ok, I still have carbs). All you need is a laptop.

JMHO, but carbureted cars using distributor-triggered MSD's run FAR better than the ubiquitous EDIS systems do.
Send that thing to Barry and it will come back like new. Bee sure to tell him your engine specs, what octane fuel you use, and it will drive out much better than stock.
