Trunk Light power connector ident

So while I'm playing my battery and had some time, I decided to try to fix my Trunk light issue.

The Light connector had been disconnected presumably by the PO when he replaced the bonnet shocks (I forget what they're called off-hand).

I did some blind fishing behind the firewall duct and found an orphan cable w/ connector. The thing is that while the connectors can mate (keying is ok), one has a red tape dot and the other has a green dot, and the brown wires to each connector are in opposite positions to each other. It's just a light and the gnd is probably isolated from the chass' on the bulb side, but it's odd to flip the wiring convention.

I can't seem to find the wiring for the trunk (and engine for that matter ) compartment lighting in the Bentley manual. I'll hit the candidate line with a meter, but do these look right?

Thanks

update - no voltage on the green connector even with key on.

this could mean that its the wrong connector or the fuse (the one I can't find in bentley) is blown.

Dan,

Keep looking, you might have the wrong connector. I believe there is an unused connector down there along side the trunk light connector. (I think it is for the euro side marker lights.) Looks like one even has the red dot to match up with the bonnet connector. Now, I would be surprized if Porsche made both the connectors the same fitment, but strainger things have happened.

Thanks very much Andrew! - that sounds hopeful now - I'll pull away more of the carpet/liner etc and start hunting in earnest.

Dan,

Here is a jpeg from my '86 factory manual.

Hope it helps.

Good luck,

Gerry

Andrew - once I pulled back more of the material liner, I found the main trunk of one of the looms and there was another connector with a red-dot, plugged this in and bingo - light!

Gerry - schematics are always appreciated, thank you very much! One question for you and only if you happened to look - was it me, or is this ckt missing from Bentley?

Dan,

I don't think it is, I just went through the same drill recently and never found it in my Bentley's... I'm copying Gerry's schematic and including it my Bentley's, thank you Gerry...

As I remember it's a weird circuit, I couldn't make heads or tails out of it with my multi-meter, but then I'm not very "sparky" savvy either.

Been trying to troubleshoot the trunk light gremlin in my 87 Targa for a while now. Found that the connector with the red dot was connected to something else and the trunk light loom was orphaned. Connected red dot to red dot and what do you know...LIGHT in the trunk! THANKS forum members!
