84 Trans & 75 halfshafts problem

I have an 89 Carrera motor connected to rebuilt 84 915 trans in a 75 Euro Targa.
Problem: The half shafts/cv joints are a different size and will not bolt up to the 84 trans.
84 trans spindles are larger size and the larger cv joint is too large to fit on the end of the 75 half shaft....

I need a solution.
thanks
Rick

You need to change the stub axles in your trailing arms. presumably, your tranny has 108mm output flanges and the stub axles are 100mm. it is a simple swap to remove the outer fixing bolt and push out the stub axle from the hub.

I think an early 108mm flange can have the roll pin drilled and tapped for an easy fit.

Either end is easy to change but an 84 915 should have 100mm ends not the 108mm.

My 84 trans has the 108mm ends....
Jpnovak: what do you mean when you say the roll pin drilled and tapped for an easy fit?
thanks

108 mm flanges and stub axles came with 6 bolt or a 4 bolt/2 roll pin pattern. The 6 bolt flanges were commonly found for 930 applications. The 4bolt/two pin setup was found on early cars. The early stub axles and flanges can be modified to match. Come to think if it I had it backwards. I think the roll pin is a larger diameter than the fixing bolts. In this case you would drill two opposing bolt holes and install the roll pin to match. Either way it is simple to adapt once you find the right size.

Are you sure you have an '84 915? The 915 didn't come with the six bolt 108mm
output flanges till '85 1/2, and then used thru '86. The flanges you have on your 915 are rare as "hens teeth" and worth a quite a bit of money ($400-500).
If your axles have the smaller 100mm six bolt CVs, you could find a set of 100mm six bolt 915 output flanges for a pretty cheap price, as they are very plentiful and sell your 108mm ones. They would sell in a heartbeat on the for sale forum!

Your solution is SC hubs that have the 6 8mm bolts and fine splines for the inside of the trans. The larger hubs come from late 85 and later. Tend to be more valuable than the mid 85 and before back through the 78 SC.

The SC hubs are 100mm and not the 108mm, correct?
I tried my old 75 hubs into the newer tranny and it was coarse vs fine splines.
Does Pelican have the SC hubs, or do I need to find them elsewhere?
thanks

Rick, all 915s (SC & '84-86 Carreras) came with 100mm 6-bolt flanges...EXCEPT for Turbo-look cars, which used Turbo axles (large CVs) to accommodate the Turbo rear suspension. 1978/79 SCs had coarse splines, all others had fine splines. Look at the serial number on your 915, if it has a 915/69 (Turbo-look RoW) or 915/70 (Turbo-look USA) next to the serial number you have one of only a few genuine turbo-look transmissions. The large flanges will probably be hard to sell, but should be worth a lot of money. I checked my inventory but I do not currently have a spare pair of fine spline, small CV flanges - sorry.

Peter,
Hate to disagree, but if you look in PET, all 85 1/2 and 86 Carreras came with
108mm output hubs, not just the turbo look cars. Believe me, I have been down the road with this axle/output shaft dilema. If you look here :
Pelican Parts - Product Information: 911-332-024-15-M60

you will see the axles our host offers for the 85 1/2 on cars with 108mm flanges! By the way,the 915 for the 85 1/2-86 normal Carreras with the 108mm flanges is a 915/73, I have one!
As far as selling the 108mm output flanges the poster has, they are getting almost impossible to find and bring premium prices. I sold a pair on the for sale forum within 30 minutes of listing them! The reason they are so rare is the fact they were used for only a year and a half, and only fit the 915, not the G50.

Rick,
Why don't you post a WTB for the 100mm fine spline hubs on the buy/sell forum, you'll probably find them with no problem.l
