back date window regulators?
I am doing some lightening to my track toy and am wondering if I would be able to remove the power window regulators and install manuel windows in an 83 SC, if so out of what year will fit? I have never seen an SC/Carrera with manuel windows.

Yes, you can do it. There are two styles of manual window regulators that have been used in a 911, the parallel arm style and the cross arm style. I'd recommend the cross arm style. If you do a little searching, you'll find a technical bulletin from Porsche that explains how to install them.
JR Edit: I'll make it easy for you. Go here: Electric to roll up window conversion. Last edited by javadog; 06-10-2010 at 06:05 AM.. |

Where can you find new manual window regulators? A seach here doesn't show anything manual.
Part from another car work?

I looked into it and as noted there are different style systems.
However, the electic lifts are not really very heavy and I do not know there would be much of any savings. It is also very convient to be able to open the pasanger window when driving. Expecially if one has removed the AC or has a racing harness on. After all, the 934 had electric lifts. |

No, that is not the way....
I have much knowledge, but it will cost you greatly.... The best thing a guy can do is get a copy of PET and use it whenever looking for parts. Find the part number you seek, enter in the above window for searching and presto! you be there. It takes me less than a minute. JR |

I agree, using the PET # is the best way, but the search engine must be porked as it should bring up any part with "window regulator" in it.. it doesn't.

A friend weighed the 2 systems...
...the power window mechanism was actually slightly lighter, he said. He decided not to convert. I have manual windows and can lean and roll up/down the passenger window while driving very easliy. It's a pretty narrow car. |

Really cool (IMO) in a backdated car is to do hot rodders trick and get the "fake" crank handles that are actually switches. Push one way windows go up, other down.
