964 NO Reverse/ bushing

 Going to purchase a 964 on Saturday and the PPI showed that the shifter bushing needed to be replaced. Car is very hard to get into reverse. Anyone have exp with this problem? Easy fix??? Thx Jason

Probably on the 964/993 forum.;)

Replacing the bushing can't be too difficult, depending on your automotive experience and set of tools.

Jason, pm sent. Get the car, get the parts and stop by. I can help you with it. Easy fix.

IIRC, the 964 shift rod has the same coupler bushings as the '65-'86 shift coupler bushings.

Although now that I think about it, they may be more like the 914 bushings which are round centered instead of of oblong. But the point is, it's the same procedure to replace them, except instead of a small coupler, it's the whole shaft that needs to come out. But it's easy enough to get at with the center tunnel cover removed.

I got great info when I posted a similar question awhile back.

Already spoke with Jason. He is on his way to get the car.
