Best Brake Pads For Dust?
I'm going to replace the brake pads on my 86 Carrera soon. It's a stock street daily driver. It will really never see any high performance driving. Which pads do you guys like to use to give you good braking and low dusting?

I'm a loser, baby.

I was really impressed with Hawk HPS pads I used this time. Virtually no dust.

A pity. That's like having a greyhound dog as a pet and not allowing him to run.
But, for low-dusting brake pads, I second the recommendation for Metalmasters. I've noticed no dust at all in the roughly 2 years I've had them on the car. I have no experience with Mintex Red Box. |

Go with Metalmasters for the street. Clean, quiet, and cheap.
Cheers

metalmaster. the hotter they get the better you stop, and no dust or noise. all I've had on my 914's and 911's for 23 years.

Several of peops told me Mintex Squeel. Even our host sales rep does not recommend them.
What would cause the Mintex to squeel if installed properly? Does anyone know which metal low dust brand is from Canada?

I used Metalmasters for a number years for street and track. For me they didn't last long on the track - usually one day. Now running Porterfield R4 on street and track. They seem to have low dust in the front and for some reason dust in the rear... I have good cooling in the front and not in the rear..so that could be the difference there. The R4's seem to be very good on the track for me... lasting longer, much longer.
basically stock 89 3.2 - driving/braking skill questionable |

Just spoke to John at Pelican.
According to him Metal Masters and Mintex are both harsh on Rotors. Mintex is less harsh of the two. Both are definite low dust. His main concern is Performance and recommends Textar, Jurid or Pagid dustand squeel is a side effect but will not harm the expensive rotors. He stated Metal Masters are not the same as in the old days when manufactured by Repco. Apparently Axxis changed the formula. They both will squeel a bit no matter what he stated. For severe squeeling the issue may be turning of rotors or need of new rotors. Does anyone know which brand of brakes are made in Canada?
