Paint Code Question.

Hello. I am restoring a 1983 911SC Cabriolet. I found out that factory paint code is
810/X7 which is Ruby Red Metalic with Clear Coat.

Every paint store who made a sample of this code uses the code 810. Every sample is darker shade than the original paint! Does X7 has anything to do with it? What is X7 means followed the paint code?

I don't know what X7 is about, but could it be the paint on the car has gotten lighter over the last 25+ years of sunshine compared to a brand new sample?

Yes, see if it matches the paint inside the door jamb.

Redish shades, particularly, tend to lighten with age and UV exposure.

Hello. Thanks you. No I am comparing the samples to the paint under the dash. Also on line I have been looking at some pictures of Ruby Red, there are two shades, one like the samples and the other just like my dash.
I have no idea if X7 means something. There are some paint codes only L810 without the X7 or anything else. Mine has additional X7 after the paint code, which could be the code to shade? I don't know. I need to let the painter know soon.

I have Ruby Red Metallic L810 with no X7 so it may make a difference.

Never had any issues matching my paint even with rattle cans with that code.

X7 is just another (marketing ?) code for 810 Ruby red.
I've no idea why the color does not match. Under the dash the paint may be very thin since it was essentially an overspray area. External surfaces tend to fade with exposure to daylight, internal surfaces generally got a very light coat that can appear to be lighter in color. The best places for color match tend to be the door jambs.

I am lost. I have been looking online at some pictures of Porsche 911 ruby red metalic on early 80's and I see two different shades of Ruby Red Metalic one darker shade than the other! I will post them as soon as I can Get out of Work!
One other question. would it hurt the value of this car if I Paint it with the new version of Porsche Ruby Red Metalic used on Cayenne's and Cayman's on 2007,8 and 9. In my opinion it's really sober color. It's a darker version of the two Ruby Red Metalic's but it's absouletly different paint. What I am trying to say if the right color is the one with the darker shade, why can't I paint the car with the new Porsche ruby Red?. It's 95% match. Does it matter?

One problem with online photos is that you never see the true color. The variances in lighting and camera combine with the rendition by your monitor means wide color variations. I'd say that if you paint with the new version, you are likely to be okay.

The link below shows touch up paint for cars. I see that the 83 911 has 810 only. The 84 911 has the X7 suffix.

No kidding dj. Online photos not a help at all. Bob. Thats exactly I am lost! The Paint code tag on my car reads L810/X7. paiont stores don't knopw what X7 means! They all say it's 810. At this point it does not matter. I am going to paint it with the new Porsche ruby Red which id 95% match and it's really nice. I will post pictures of the car once I'll bring it back to shop. I dont know how it will look in pictures since the color is metalic and it's darker shade. I will try my best to take a good one.
