Headlights on = no blinkers
![]() I have an interesting one here - I think. Over the winter, I did a bunch of stuff - including feeding a new antenna wire through the dash. In the process, I thought I was pulling out an old wire from a car phone. Wrong-o! The end had been affixed via a spade connector up in the passenger side corner of the dashboard. Near the footwell blower. Since I hate electrical work with a passion, and digging in the dash is a close second - I thought I'd wait until the car is operational and find out what - if anything is effected by my gaffe. Well, the one thing I know is different is that the blinkers work fine when the lights are off, but when the headlights are on - the flashers remain in "on" all the time - along with the indicator lights in the tach. So - what lives up in the right hand area of the dashboard (near passenger door / window) that I messed up by pulling a wire out? Thanks. |

It sounds like you are missing the ground wire to the tach. I had similar problems when I got my car.

Duh.
It's an '85. Sorry bout that. I need to dig into wiring diagrams, but if anyone knew answer to this - I'd be greatly appreciative. Thanks! |

I had a funky left turn signal when the headlights were on, it turned out that I had accidentally switched wires on the right signal when I was cleaning connections. I was running power into the ground circuit.
So, I agree, it's probably ground related. In my case, I had nice clean grounds with the positive circuit connected directly to it ![]()

I believe the wire was brown. If I get a chance tomorrow night - will dig around in there and snap a photo.
Couldn't figure out what's located up in that area of the dash. Hoping to have some time to troubleshoot soon... Thanks for the hints, though! |

Look for an attachment point (grounding point) with several male spade connectors with other brown wires under the dash, adjacent to the glove box area. Also, just ground the "loose" wire and see if all is well. Good luck, Gerry ![]()

Not sure for your model year, but in my '75 there's a wire that goes from the turn signal to the emergency flasher switch. Removing this wire causes funkiness with the turn indicators. . .
good luck. --- Tom '75 targa. |

The grounds on these cars were designed by psychotic ogres living in dungeons, in the darkness. Check every (brown) ground wire you can find.
