Source for ball joint socket tool? (Installation)
Does anyone know of another source other than the host for this? They don't have them anymore.
Thanks - |

Your local hardware store and it's called a pipe wrench. Seriously, that's how I took mine off, and I then hand screwed them back on and used the pipe wrench to snug it tight.

Take your new ball joint to an auto parts store and look for the socket to remove a Ford or Dodge 4 wheel drive axle nut. There are several sizes, but one of them will fit the 911 ball joint castellated nut. They sell between $8 and $15.

I used the "kinda fits" 4X4 socket to get the nut off with an air gun - got them off Now I need the one for "installation only" that pelican sold...it's out there Where is it? |
no lift..my dodge hub tool fit perfectly! i used it for the removal and installation. it never slipped. it was around $10.

Agreed- check out the misc. monster sockets at local parts stores. Performance Tool is the name brand I recall at Advance Auto.
If you must have the real deal socket (it does work pretty well, as a handful of locals have borrowed mine and were very thankful) try Skyway Tools. Nice people there. Prices aren't drop dead great (kinda pricey IMO) but they're quick to ship and nice people. Automotive Tools - Porsche |
I have two. One is still in original pelican package. Will sell it to you if you want...

Sir Tools P210 Ball Joint Pin Wrench Socket |
I have porsche factory socket it is the best tool for the job
|

quickest loss of 50 bucks i ever spent. socket is a POS. buy the cheap ones.
|
The tool is not made of hardened steel. One slip and the points can be rounded. I use a floor jack to press it against the nut and have had success every time.
|
Apparently our host is getting more of these mid July. I know this because I am looking to buy one and asked the question.
I have heard the floor jack method is a must. |
the Pcar one is robbery. it is weak. the dodge tool spanks it.
|
The Sir Tools socket is like that remote controlled car you had to have as a kid, or the Red Rider BB gun. You think it's the shiznit, but then it breaks right away and you become a bit more jaded. Use the pipe wrench, torque that puppy down and only admit to doing so around friends. I admit I rounded off my ST socket and wish I had that hundy back.
