Kinda strange, but I took off the dist cap, rotor and cranked the engine. The tapping appears to be coming from inside. There's a pair of "thingamajigs" that swing out under the cent. force and they maybe rub against two other "thingamajigs".
Anyway, these things slapping or ticking against these appears to be the sound. There are two springs that hold the first thing together...one of the plastic housings on these appears to be broken, making the spring on one side maybe slightly less tight..but this does NOT appear to be the cause..it's not as though a spring is missing, or something..the spring is on there, but maybe 1/2 mm less distance... Anyone know anything about what's going on in here.. Put it this way, if I take off the cap and crank it, should I hear those pieces ticking as the engine turns? ------------------ Kurt B 1984 Carrera Cabriolet 911 Page carrera_cabriolet@yahoo.com |

Kurt, I do not believe these things should be making noise. Warren has repeatedly told us our distributors need to be removed, disassembled and cleaned. Ignore Warren at your own risk. I do.
Also, I have to agree that the two of you are big, big joys to the rest of us on the Board. Oh, and I suspect that the broken plastic thing needs to be replaced or fixed. There aren't many things on my car that are not there for at least one very good reason. ------------------ '83 SC |
