Gauge lights (one set not working)

I finally received the new glass for my fuel gauge and put it all back together. Even the beating on the ring did not look bad when all back together.

Problem is, that neither of the two bulbs lights. All other gauges light fine. I could not get a new one for the bigger of the two, but the smaller one I did and also tested it on another gauge.

The only other thing I did was yank out the seat belt buzzer. This would not have any affect would it? Its located behind the gauge but does not appear to be related.

Thanks

Are the connections at the two bulb holders at the fuel gauge recieving power?

It is impossible to tell from your description if the problem is bulbs, bulb holders, or wiring! You may have broken a wire inside the insulation at one of the 'multiples' where two wires are crimped to a connector and one wire goes to the next gauge. This isn't a difficult problem to troubleshoot ... with a multimeter! You do have a meter, right?

Ok Warren

Make me feel bad! Nope no multimeter. Any recommendation on where and kind to get.

I checked the wiring as I only removed the one gauge and it all seemed ok, unless I pulled it a bit when the gauge came out of the dash and I know the lights were working when I removed it.

My wife is gonna love this, another tool! Good thing she does not get jewelry for each tool!

The larger bayonet bulbs can be replaced with either #1816 or #1893 bulbs from an automotive store or the auto section at Wal-Mart.

Sears carries several Fluke models of DMM for around or under $100. Both the 20-series and 70-series meters are good values in a general-purpose instrument

I figure I'll revive this thread instead of making a new one.

The bulbs in my '84 Carreras tach are not lighing up. All the other gauge lights work fine. I replaced the tach bulbs to no avail. The tach itself still works fine.
Can anyone suggest where to look for a problem?
Unfortunately I left my Bentley manual at a friend's house, and he is on vacation for the next week, so I don't have a wiring diagram to work with.
