how to make a SWB hot rod even funner.
 

it's a 2100lb '67 with a warmed over 3.0 and a 915. full plastic suspension bushings, sway bars, upgraded t-bars, blah, blah....

anyway, was a lot of fun before but now it's even better. bought some race-shaved toyo R888's on evilbay. 195/50-16 on 6X16 rims. seriously grippy on the street. almost like adding limited slip to the trans because I'm not getting the wheelspin on the inside tire in corners. a little noisy but I can't hear much over the engine anyway. great to drive, but the car is getting away on me a little bit down the go-fast path. oh well. :D

ps. the shadow over the wheel openings is a bad color match after touching up where I had to do some bodywork after rolling the lips.

very cool car Magnus. do you run it on the street like that? to keep the collector ( cheap) insurance on mine it's supposed to be 'stock' . it's getting pretty far from that now, but I think I'll put a bit more chrome on it to look 'vintage'.

Magnus--Do you still have the factory hood catch system? Does the rubber mount keep the hood secure at highway speeds?

Your '68 swb has an "oil tank?" opening on the passenger side. I thought that was only found on '72 models. I imagine you deliberately made this modification? :confused:

It's a 911R tribute/replica. 911r's had the tank opening just like the '72 did.

Magnus' car looks like the most fun to drive car I have ever seen. It must be a riot. I am sure Hycait's is a blast too but the silver car is really special.

I like haycait911's car. The S spoiler is perfect. I know you were debating the Buerzel. It looks great at that angle. The paint shadow gives you a reason to add the proper flares, though.:) Great color.

Haycait I wonder how some Martini 'esque' stripes and a flat engine lid would look? Or add the rear flares. The Duck looks a little 'heavy' to me with out the flares for some reason.

Here is my 1966 912 which if I remember correctly I intentionally kept 100% stock for insurance purposes. Only legitimate upgrade was to run 15x7s on the rear....w/ toyos:D

Seems to be the place for SWB hot rods... 6x15 deep fuchs shod with 205/55/15 BF Goodrich comp TA... great grip for a relatively inexpensive tire!

I have thoughts of making up a lower ducktail this winter. I wouldn't mind some stripes/graphics but the car needs to remain 'stock' for insurance purposes. I even added some cheap plastic chrome trim to make it look more 'stock' . going to a viper club autocross on the 18th, so we'll see how these tires really work.

I don't want flares on it, I really like the flat-sided look of the SWB cars. I'll be painting it this winter, and although the blue has grown on me there's something about silver. here's my old '73, now in Norway. notice the same plastic trim I just used, love the stuff.

How about a cutom diffuser to replace the ducktail. The insurance guys will never think to look under the car.;)
