Am I missing a spring???

Just completed rebuilding my pedal cluster - I think. In the photos in the 101 projects book, and on Pelican's site, there is a spring on the RIGHT side of the clutch pedal shaft. Mine didn't have this spring when I disassembled it (see photos), and there doesn't seem to be a part available. Did this spring get eliminated at some point? My car is a '79, maybe SCs don't have it? If not, do I really need it? I'm fairly sure my symptoms (sticky clutch pedal and accelerator) are consistent with bad bushings, and the bushings were indeed pretty bad. Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to take all this stuff apart again...

Here is the one pictured in the Pelican article -
