901 Transmission Build Questions
I'm building a spare 901 transmission for my 2-litre racing 911 that I primarily race in SVRA events. It's been a while since I've done a transmission and haven't done that many in the first place. Anyways, here is a list of questions:
1. In the past we've had problems with spun bearings on our ZF LSD. Last time we did a rebuild we used loctite under the bearings to try and prevent them from spinning. For this rebuild I'm using a Guard LSD. Any opinions on whether to use loctite under the bearings or races in the case / side cover? 2. Speaking of the bearing on the differential, what to you guys use to install the bearing in place of the special tool P 264? How much pressure do you apply? 3. Also with regard to the differential, the book calls for a set of washers (901.332.263.01) and the spacers (901.332.265.01 to .13) (2.5mm - 3.7mm depending on pre-load requirements). I remember putting a set of spacers under my LSD to get the preload right and then moving them around to get the backlash right. Do they all take the washer as well as the spacers? I'm assuming the washer affects the preload measurement. 4. I've either misplaced or run out of my spacers used under the diff. Any sources? Most of them are NLA from Pelican. Tomorrow I will take the readings off from the end of the pinion shaft to try and predict the size of the spacers I need. 5. I will be also posting some of this in the WTB section, but the new mainshaft I'm installing in the transmission is larger in diameter at the end where the castle nut goes. I’m looking to buy a Castle Nut M 14x1.5 and Washer 14.3x21.5x3. Anybody have any lying around collecting dust. As always thanks for your input. Rob 5. |

Rob,
Don't loctite the bearing onto the LSD. Our LSD installs as a direct factory replacement. Put it in just as if it was a factory unit. And I can help you with #4 and #5. I've got that stuff sitting around. Give me a call in the morning and we can sort it out. Regards, Matt Monson Guard Transmission LLc 303-530-1094
