what is the most engine the 915 trans will handle?

I'm thinking of upgrading the 2.7 to a 3.2 or 3.6 but not sure if the 915 transmission will handle the 3.6? Has anyone experienced this upgrade? I sem to remember Jack Olsen with a 3.6 but I didn't see where he changed the tranny?

Thanks...ceb

I think how much engine a 915 will handle all determines on the shape of the tranny and how much you abuse it.There is more than one guy out there running a small block chevy behind it and driving the S@#t out of it and they seem to take it.Maybe Jack or someone else with more knowledge will pipe in but I think tranny life is relative to its shape and how it is used.

I used my 73 tranny for about a year before I needed to replace it. I track the car about once a month, so it was getting some serious use. Other guys have kept their 7:31 transaxles with big engines and not had any problems at all. I think it has a lot to do with the condition of the ring and pinion and bearings and -- of course -- how aggressively you use the thing. They say the early magnesium case box is good for up to about 300 hp. In my case, it was fine... for a year.

If you check out the FAQ on Steve Timmins' site, I think he discusses it.
