Hi guys, need your opinion.
I recently replaced my airbox with a new air induction unit (one of those cone shaped airboxes) to allow for more air to get to the engine. Problem is that now in the morning the car doens't start well. If I just turn the key it will turn over but will die immediately. If I crank it and give it gas for 5 seconds or soit will smooth out to an Idle. Obviously this wans't happening before, it used to just start right up. Also a few months ago I installed a Weltmeister chip, don't know if that could have naything to do with it, before the Air induction unit the car started fine with the chip. The car is a '90 911 C4 cab. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks Doug |

couple of things I have to warn you about.
Not exactly sure about structure of 964, but here's something. If it sounds like yours can relate then it may apply. 1) If you got a brace with that cone. The brace bolted on in one spot to the air flow meter right? If it did be warned. The weight of the air flow meter and the cone is too much, and that bolt on the air flow meter will be stripped. The result of which is an unstable airbox. I dumped my cone, and went back stock after replacing the air flow meter which didn't work right (don't think it was because of..but who knows). 2) If yours is like mine, then the main hose (3" diameter) going from air flow meter to manifold may not be properly snug. If the brace isn't the right height, it pushes the meter up too high and you get a leak. Weltmeister chip will work or not. If it's not in right, the car won't start. I have one too. One thing to check is a small hose that runs in the back of the compartment and plugs in near the oil...easily comes disconnected when putting stuff in around the airbox. That's all I can think of, but I have a 3.2 DME not a 964 ------------------ Kurt B 1984 Carrera Cabriolet 911 Page carrera_cabriolet@yahoo.com |
