Seat bolt question

Somehow, the passenger seat bolt (the one that holds the top part to the bottom). Has gone missing.

I see there is a Porsche part number for this. Is this a standard size bolt I could just get at Home Depot.

Wait, is M10 X20 a size?

If so, please ignore!

M10 is the metric size 20 is the length. What it doesen't show is the hardness. If you know that, any M10X20 from anywhere will do.

Believe it is 8,8 steel in those bolts, but I could be wrong.

I’ll bet this not your average M10x20 hardware store bolt.
Note that it has a unique 911.xxx.xxx.xx part number.
If it were a DIN/ISO standard bolt (8.8 or other) it would be listed as 900.xxx.xxx.xx.

If you can’t find the missing bolt, get a new OE Porsche bolt. Your life may depend on it.

An alternative might be a good used salvage bolt from the same application.
Make sure it hasn’t been ‘stress tested’ in a bent-up seat.

Best,
Grady

Interesting. I thought this was a fairly stress free part. Simply a pivot point.

Is this bolt integral to the safety of the passenger?

I would hate to have both snap off on a rear ender! Most bolts, if not all, except trim screws, are hardened ones.

Look at the bolt on your other seat. Some of those seat bolts have a shoulder and are not just regular bolts.
If it looks like a standard bolt you need to check the strength rating (the number stamped on the head like 10.8) and the thread pitch. It could have coarse or fine threads.

Don't know if a 1989 seat bolt will work for you,..but, if so,..I'll be glad to send to a set free.

Thanks,

Doyle

Gerry,

‘Somewhere’ I posted this on Pelican.

These M6 bolts hold the seat rails to the chassis and the seat to the seat rails. They are shallow head to clear so the rails slide without interference. They are stronger (not case hardened) 10.8 as they hold the seat (and you) in the car. Eight of these on each seat hold the rails to the chassis. Sometime, later than I know about (964, 993?), these go to M8.

The above thread is about the single special M10 pivot bolt holding the seat back on the seat bottom frame. It is also part of the seat-back angle adjusting system. I agree, this bolt probably has a sholder to center the adjuster.

Best,
Grady
