Plastic fuel lines: brute force or heat ??

I'm in the process of refitting one of the hard plastic fuel lines into the barbed inlet to the fuel distributor.

What's the recommended way to force it past the first barb ? brute force (not easy) or by heating the line (hair dryer maybe) ? |

I took my line to a local Porsche Shop (TRE). There is a special tool to properly fit the line.

I am told that a diesel mechanic may also be able to fit the line to the barbed end. I tried to do it myself, heat/pressure/swearing all with no luck

there's a special tool that clamps the tube. the tube sticks out the end of the tool about the same length as the barb fitting. let sit in boiling water for a minute and force it over the barb. hold the fitting in a soft jaw vise.

I thought I came across something special when I found the Delorean dealer mentioned in the link above, from 2004! A hint, I don't think that dude has any affection for us "Porsche People".....but if I get my new fittings from him by Sat. I'll be happy. ....what is the proper line size and best source for replacement fuel line? Seems our host has what looks like standard rubber lines, not the hard nylon (?) lines currently in place.

I am not sure of the tubing size, but they sell it. They are not nylon, I believe they are polymide, but anyway this is where to buy it.

LOL! I bought out their entire stock of CIS line about two years ago. I have a ton of it in my garage right now if anyone's looking for various diameters/lengths.

It is damn nearly impossible to find this stuff in metric diameters BTW.

I have called them recently, they have more. I have not ordered any of it. I am still torn between doing this like it was originally, or going to Goodrich fuel lines. Just can't make my mind up.

Goodrich fuel lines ? are they metal or just different fittings at the ends ? can they be retrofitted ?

They are flexible stainless steel lines with a plastic coating on the outside. I think they are teflon on the inside. Anyway they have the same fittings as the original lines. I was quoted 240.00 for a set. I think that included the line from the wur to the distributor and from the fuel filter etc. I have to get with them to make sure that the kit includes them all. I am leaning towards those instead of screwing with making my own. It won't be original, but my car is not so.....

I would like to find a reasonable solution to replace the nylon lines. Specially the ones from WUR to FD and FD to fuel filter...

i think i sprayed some valvaline syn lube, maybe dw40 or maybe even skin so soft on one of mine. hey dont laugh, i used it to put the new top seal on my 914, helped it slide on then evaporated. its been a long time now so i cant remember. it helped it slide on. i let it sit until the next day. i tried to twist it the next day and the fitting would not budge. i checked it for leaks over the next few days and wala! years later it is still working fine.

i think i may have used something that i thought would not keep it lubed for any length of time, that was why i let it sit for a day or so.
