Newly recovered Sport Seats
Hello everyone,
I just had my sport seats re-upholstered in leather. I know it may be a little wild for some of you, but here they are: ![]() |

Nice!
If you don't mind me asking, what's the name of the place that did them, and how much $. |

Matt, my father recovered the seats for me. He has been in the upholstery business for over 35 years. I was quoted, by local upholstery shops, $2500.00. This included new foam, springs, and repainting the frame.

Nice! I think the crest is something I might do without, but the yellow and black combination looks really cool. The Porsche lettering is a very nice touch, too.

Ruben...I have a problem maybe your dad can help me out. I have searched everywhere including Stoddard to find the internal cables that activate the seat latches for my sport seats in my 79 SC I can find the short cables but the longer ones seem to be NLA. Would appreciate any help. thanks in advance...By the way those seats look gorgeous...a bit wild for my taste but nice touches on them.

Howie:
For the longest release cable, go to your bike shop. Brake cable and housing are cheap enough. You can fabricathe the "hooks" easily (I drilled some rod I had, inserted the cable and then crimped the cable). Worked wonders for 2 years now, for about 3$. BTW the 2 color is a nice thing. The factory had it in '76 already. My car had black/cream leather originally. I love it. |

Ruben,
That is really outstanding work! If your Dad is interested in securing some additional Porsche customers via UPS, I am quite sure a posting in the 'Parts forums' here at Pelican, and a small ad in Excellence with a picture ... will generate more response than he could ever imagine! I know El Centro is a little off the beaten path, but I was through there several times in the '60 and '70s on the way down to San Felipe!

Guys, Thanks for the positive feedback.
Warren, thats exactly what I'm trying to have my dad do. I will be posting an ad soon. If any of you are interested in having some work done, I can speak to my dad. He is located in Sacramento, CA. Happy New Year! |

Ruben...gee your dad is in Sacto..well shucks as luck would have it so am I. Maybe he can help me with the cable thing. I appreciate the info on the bike cable and was thinking along those lines. For heavier duty cabling I had thought about ordering the kill handle cable (x-2) for a Craftsman lawn mower. May be too long but already has the swaged Z bend on both ends. Even if too long can sacrifice one end and rig the cut end.
