Rear bumper is really hot!
Went out for another test spin in my 80 sc after my rebuild and noticed my rear bumper is very hot to the touch??? I back dated the exhaust to pre 74 ssi's and a 2 in 1 out muffler. Is this normal? Sorry first 911

Funny, I just got in from a drive on a hot night, and my rear bumper is hot as hell also. 78 SC with SSI and 74 exhaust (loving that setup btw), but hot bumper.

Guys - The heat sheild material you can buy does an unbelievable job on this.
Or....cut holes in your bumper and start the slippery slope.

Trade you my stock cool bumper set up for your SSi's and hot bumpers. I'll swap out no charge, that should fix it. (thank me later).

Rear Bumper holes
my 82 sc has a warm bumper. Very very warm i would say, but still touchable. Standard sausage exhaust, heat shield installed.
I am contemplating making a couple of cooling/lightening holes on the bumper. My reasoning being that by creating a means for the heat to exit there, would be also lesser heat accumulation within the engine bay. ![]() |

I had the same issue and picked up some material from (gulp) J.C. Whitney which I installed on the bumper. Much cooler but still warm to the touch.

Is this heat shield material generic? Is it just called muffler heat shield? I assume it's applied inside the bumper...

My car's rear bumper used to get real hot. I did a full tune-up including re-indexing the distributor so I could properly set the ignition timing. Lowered the temps a lot, cool bumper now.
