16 or 17mm dia Front Torsion Bars
I need a pair of 16mm or 17mm diameter front torsion bars.
I think that the 16mm bar was made for an RSR and the 911R used a 17mm dia. I don't want to try reduce the diameter of stock bars as they are quite difficult to machine and the residual stresses may cause a fatigue problem. Any ideas? |

19mm was the standard front Torsion bar. I believe the original RSR ran at the most 21mm. As for sway bars, RSR ran both the 18 and 19mm front sway IIRC The R ran the front 15 or 16mm sways I believe. Never heard of 16 or 17mm front Torsions.

You are misinformed. The RSR and 911R did not use torsion bars in those sizes.

Torsion Bars

![]() It was not the RSR that used 16mm dia front torsion bars it was the 911 SC/RS and they were in fact 16.7mm dia Part Numbers 954.343.101.00 L 954.343.101.00 R From 911 SC/RS Parts List ![]() It is also true that the 911R did not have 17mm dia bars they were in fact 17.1mm. Part Numbers 901.343.101.13 L 901.343.102.13 R From Catalogue E-133 November 1967 ![]() I will try to be more accurate in future. ![]() All of these parts are, of course, NLA I was just hoping to find some old stock. I guess I will have to gun drill some hollow bars to give the equivalent stiffness. Last edited by chris_seven; 08-05-2010 at 02:02 AM.. |

Wow, why so soft? Did the Larousse TdF 911R lightweight also use such soft bars? I am surprised that the SCRS used even smaller bars.
