Engine removal question, first timer

Have already gone through the search button, but still puzzled. We're in the middle of dropping a 912 engine mated to a 901 and having difficulty removing the clutch cable. It seems the cable is attached solid to the transmission housing. It appears from other threads that it may be permanently attached to the trans housing. No luck in getting it loose. Thanks in advance.

I bet it's just stuck in the casting (though I have never had a 901). Wire brush and some Kroil, no heat if it's a mag case but if not a propane torch on the cast part and try twisting the cable (outside sheath) end. A couple light taps (from right to left in the pic) on the cable sheath end being careful not to bust the casting after soaking a day or so. Of course I may be way off, but that's what I would do..

Both the housing and the cable are available new from our host and they are not expensive. If you can't get it loose, CUT the freaking thing and DROP that motor!

I've tried penetrating oil and a pair of vicegrips, no luck. Also tried a hammer tapping on it, won't budge. If a cut it, how would I reinstall a new cable? Thanks

Unhook the cable from the pedal cluster and withdraw it forward.

You can then use more penetrating oil and a hammer to tap the sheath forward.

If that doesn't work, you can pull the sheath off the ferrule on the tunnel so you don't have to cut it.
