With 22/28 f/r t-bar sizes and bilstein sports, what are the best sway bar sizes?

Hey all

so, as stated in the subject, I have obtained a set of 22/28 torsion bars, bilstein sports for the front and rear, and will be installing these in my 81 sc targa. It will also have monoballs front and rear. The front control arm bushings are the rebel racing setup. The rea spring plates will likely get polybronze bushings if rebel isn't coming out with something for the rear amytime soon.

The car is going to be primarily street driven, and once I have some money again after buying all the parts i've amassed over the past year for both the interior and exterior. It isn't lightened at all, and I doubt that I will go in that direction much if at all.

I did move up to the larger stock sway bars from the Carreras to replace the ones that came on the sc.

I was wondering what people think about upgrading the sway bars. I have a chance to get a good deal on a pair of bars, one is a smart racing 23mm bar, and the other is a 25mm TRG bar. I'd be buying only the bars, and would have to source the mounting hardware for them elsewhere.

So, are these appropriate sizes for my application, or given that I'm going all out already everywhere else to suh a degree that it is almost silly for the street that the stock carrera bars I have in the car now would be sufficient.

Keep in mind that I really dislike body roll. I really go for the taught ride, stiff but controlled, not overly harsh, and ready to take on the track when I'm able (living in the sf bay area, having sears point, laguna seca and thunderhill within at most a few hours drive, I'm REALLY REALLY excited to get back on the track again after a several year hiatus after my racing team disbanded). So, with my racing history, that might help explain my willingness to go all out with the suspension in the car as I am doing.

Anyway, thanks in advance, and once I get going on the suspension and interior redo, I'll document it on here if people find it interesting.

Michael

I have the identical set up in my 86 and have the 23mm smart racing bars.
Amazing set up! Rides very flat and you can adjust it any way you want.
Make sure you go with the WEVO solid mounts in the rear.

I would go for the Smart Racing black bushings on the spring plate in the rear. Clint is in the early development stages of rear bushings. The Smart Racing bushings do not need greasing and are way cheaper than the PolyBronze. Then when Clint gets the rears done, you and I can install those without trying to deal with getting the JB welded stuff of from the PolyBronze. Clint has the Smart Racing bushings. He has already done stuff in the rear for coil-overs so I think he has a good idea of what he wants to do for torsion bar cars.

If it were me I would wait on buying any new anti-sway bars. Your body roll will be diminished somewhat when installing bigger T-bars. They will work in conjunction with your Carrera anti-sways to cut down on body roll.

Install your new bushings, T-bars and shocks. Have it aligned and corner balanced and then drive it a while. You might find that you don't need bigger anti-roll bars.

There's a good chance you'll notice more scuttle shake with the bigger springs so you might want to save your money and put it toward that rather than bigger anti-roll bars.

My current setup: front/rear

22/28mm T-bars
Koni / Bilstein sport shocks
Elephant polybronze bushings / Wevo roller bearing springplates
22mm Tarret frt adjustable sway/ Carrera 21mm rr sway (Wevo mounts)

Do you have a link for those Wevo roller bearing spring plate mounts? Do you need to zirk grease them or are they sealed like a wheel bearing?

Yah, about the flex, I'm pretty well prepped. I'm getting a triangulated strut brace for the front and I already bought a brey-krause harness bar for the targa (it has those "targa bars" integrated to it's design) so hopefully those will tighten things up.

I think I might pass on the 25mm bar as that has to be overkill given that it's the largest that trg makes, but that 23 might come in handy.

If you are getting a deal, buy it. It is always nice to have a stash of parts to be used or sold at a later date.
