Got Fuch buy back estimates from Wheel Enhancement

WOW...
they offered $75.00 for the 6" x 16
and $100.00 for the 7"x16
each...

is it me or is this pretty low?
just wondering what market for these are? Mine are black center and chrome lips.

I posted them and my seats and muffler in the classifieds...

anyone give me an idea what $$ I should look for?
And no potential bidders suggesting pennies!!!

It sounds low, but when you think about, how big could the demand for them be? People tend to go to bigger and wider Fuchs, even on the early cars. They probably don't get a lot of people asking for 7" rears nowadays.

I think people will pay $100 for the 6x16's - they cut the centers out and use them to make 17" Fuch style wheels.

Wheel Enhancement does very good work, but they don't break their backs to keep money in your pocket.

Al Reed is someone you might want to call.

$50 per wheel.

There was a post the other month from Ian's selling 7x16's for $100 each. The 6x16's are not worth much more wholesale then what he offered because everyone want a wider tire. The value of Fuchs goes up the scale from 7" to 9".

I was offered 125 to 150 for early 15 x 6's to buy. They'd refinsish them at 165 a wheel , or sell me a refurbished set at $1500.

Being near Toronto and them being in California, shipping is an issue, not to mention brokerage etc...

If anyone knows a good place in Ontario that can do good work, please let me know...someone who has worked with fuchs specifically.

I thought the people at wheel enchancement were good. They took the time to write me a detailed letter promptly.

I just sold a nice set of 4 - 16 x 6's on ebay canada for $290 US$, with caps. They should have been listed on ebay motors so more potential buyers would have seen them. Remember to expand your search outside the USA. when looking for something on ebay....there are deals to be had.

Refinish them yourself. These set of 7" by 16" were bought at $100 each locally. I just resanded and cleaned the centers. Masked and painted them a semiflat black that is very close to the original paint.

I just sold a set of Fuchs, 6&7 X 16's, for $500. I think that was about $100 below "market" for wheels in excellent condition with decent tires. Mine were painted white with the spokes and lip polished. The buyer paid shipping, too.

Considering that Wheel Enhancements is going to have to probably do a little work on the wheels (you didn't say what condition the wheels are in) and then try to make a little money on them when they turn around and sell them, the price they are offering seems in the ballpark.

Of course, you can probably make a little more by selling privately, but then you assume a little risk and have the hassle.

I posted mine on Rennlist and had 5 offers to buy them in about a week. Give that a try, but don't feel like Wheel Enhancements is trying to low-ball you. As the others have stated, the 6 and 7inch 16's aren't the most desirable Fuchs.

My two cents...

Dean

Are your Fuchs chrome or polished? I may be interested in them if they are polished. Problem is I am in Atlanta.... but I would be willing to beat your offer from Wheel Enhancement plus pay for shipping. Thanks, Sean.

I've been thinking about this a lot recently as I have 6" and 7" FUCHs on my SC. This was the upgrade option for '78, and so is neat for that reason. Later in the SC years the 7" and 8" FUCHs were available as the wheel upgrade option.

I think the way to go is to think about saving your 6/7s and acquire a set of 8" or 9". Prep all the wheels to match each other (yeah, that's some work but I've done my own) and then put the 7" and 8or9" on the car. Then, when you go to sell, sell the "smaller" wheels, find a 7" and set that up on the next Porsche so that, again, you have your larger set.

I guess what I'm saying here is that once you purchase the 8" or 9" (or larger) FUCHs you might as well think for the future. Since the price WE is offering is low, consider keeping the wheel set and selling the car with the smaller wheels, keeping the large set for your next car.

John
