california 10%ethanol gas and spark plugs
Has anyone changed their choice of plugs due to California's 10% ethanol gas? I'm using Chevron 91 octane in a 2.2 with E cams & S p/c. I'm currently using Bosch wr5dc plugs.
Thanks in advance, Rob

are the plugs fouling?
if your fuel mixture is right, your timing is right and the plugs are not fouled, stay with what you have. i doubt your plugs are over heating, so fouling or too black is what you should look for. i dont know what effect ethenol has on plugs, but you just need to go by what yours look like.

Rob,
Ethanol, in and of itself, will not affect your choice of spark plug heat range. Driving conditions, type of use, and engine configuration are the main factors in choosing the correct plugs for your car.

Steve,
Without questioning your knowledge, are you suggesting that fuel configuraion/blends have no bearing on plug heat range selection?

Im sure he is just talking about ethanol content in fuel. Heck even ignition advance effects spark plug heat range.

..at the same time the ethanol alcohol mixed into your gas has oxygen in it's molecular structure so the final blend of E10 gasoline, 10% ethanol gasoline blend, gasahol or whatever you wanna call it carries some oxygen into the combustion chamber so it is slightly leaning out the mixture compared to straight non ethanol blended gasoline.
If you don't richen up the idle CO and air fuel mixture a tiny bit when running e10 fuel the idle will not be as smooth as it could be and the car will run a tiny bit leaner. I would try a set of plugs one step colder if they look like they are running a little leaner after using the 10% ethanol gas you have available.. Then be your own judge.
