HELP! I have a mismatched 901 question

Guys,

It seems that I have things mixed up a bit and need to know if I am correct in my assumption on how to fix it.

I bought a rally geared 901 for my 71' 911 and sold the original box. Now I realise that I have an earlier 901 with the wrong type of clutch fork.

In summary I have the following:
68' or 69' I'm guessing 901 with the single ball screwed in.
71' Clutch Fork
71' Clutch package

I 'think' I can remove the single ball and buy the ball pin (pivot bolt), spring, and washer for a 71' and install them and be ready to go. Of course I will need a TO bearing for a 71' too.

If my assumption in wrong, what do I need to do to backdate to a 68;/69' 901?

I hate when this happens!

You need to buy back your type 911 transmission.

Failing that, you need another type 911 transmission.

You could also convert to the earlier (smaller) 215 mm push-type clutch. That will require a new flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc, TO bearing, flywheel bolts, flywheel washer and six clutch bolts. This is not usually a satisfactory solution.

The 901 transmission has the ball pivot in a different radial location from the type 911 transmission. Unlike the 914 casting, the 901 does not have the extended boss allowing re-drilling of the pivot hole.

I suppose you could weld, machine, drill and tap the aluminum casting for the 2.2 pull-type clutch pivot. This is somewhat dificult to get correct.

If you use a pull-type clutch, you will also need back the 2.2 TO bearing guide tube. It is longer than the 2.0 version on your new 901 transmission.

You can always use the gears from the 901 transmission to re-gear your type 911 transmission. That is easy.
