Pertronix coil compatability

Is the Pertronix Flame Thrower II compatible with their earlier points replacement set for '73.5- '77?

Also would I see any benefit, performance/mileage as they claim?

I'm currently running an older Pertronix point conversion, OEM coil (transformer) with the stock CDI and Webers on a '74 2.7 with a plug gap of .30 on NGK BP6ES, I am considering this to have a backup coil with the car for trips etc.

Thanks
David

I doubt you would see any improvement. The points in your car only tell the CDI when to trigger - they don't handle the coil energizing like an old points/condenser/coil set-up.

I replaced my points with a pertronix just because I was constantly having to set the points. A good distributor and points should last a long time with CDI though. You'll have to decide for yourself if you want to change to Pertronix - but I wouldn't expect any improvement, unless there is something wrong with your current set-up.

Rex

I currently am using an early Pertronix points conversion with good results, I am wondering if their Pertronix II coil will jive with my set up.
