I use my 1988 coupe as a weekend driver and occasionally when I take it out after it has been sitting for a week, the speedometer doesn't work for about a mile or so.
The speedo just sits at 0 MPH unitl I've driven for a mile or two and then it operates normally. Any ideas on what I could check or what this might be. Thanks |

My best guess would be that the impulse sender at the transmission is going south. It's located on the left side of the transmission just forward of where the halfshaft exits. You might try pulling it and cleaning it up to see if that helps. If not, probably it will slowly become worse and you will want to replace it. The part number is 911.606.910.01 and it costs around $60. Replacement is fairly easy with the hardest part being fitting the new rubber grommet on the body where the wires enter.
