Trunk and engine lid shock questions

For anyone that has a set of old, worn-out Stabilus hood shocks laying around ( or even new ones)....

...can someone measure the overall length of the shock, from hole-center to hole-center? Mostly concerned with the shorter engine lid shock and must be measured from a factory or Stabilus piece, not an aftermarket Weltmeister piece.

If it matters....for a mid 80's ( 1985) 911 Carrera.

I measured a new Stabilus rear hood shock (that I have yet to install): 10 and 1/16th inches center to center of the holes...

CONFIRMED ! .....WARNING !!

This is the second set of replacement Weltmeister HD lifetime shocks I got ( under warranty) in a span of over 6 years...and AGAIN...the hole-to-hole distance is almost 3/16-1/4 inch too long ( almost exactly one hole diameter too long)...no wonder I was having difficulty installing the shock as I couldn't open the engine lid any further to accommodate the hinge-holes for the pin.

The required solution?..... screw-off the eyebolt end-piece of the Weltmeister shock from its shaft....cut down the eyebolt (at the flat-surface screw-in end) by the required amount....and screw it back on the shaft. There will be enough female screw thread remaining in the cut down piece for it to engage the threaded shaft. now the hole-to-hole overall length is proper.

Why do we have to go to this sort of trouble?....the manufacturer can't get this aspect right?. And why isn't this discovered and corrected in the passage of many years on the market? A shame, as the the rest of the shock looks to be of high quality and you do get free replacements every 6 years or so when these things go bad.
