Server Speed Update...

Update to the process of trying to improve performance:

- We tracked some performance issues to some network maintenance that has been going on with some pipes on the East Coast. This is consistent with the results that I have seen where I can access the forums fine from here in California (and also our Australian customers too). This seems to have gotten better over the past week or so, perhaps this cross-country maintenance is completed?

- I've been running extensive logging on the server since the beginning of the week. With about 10M database requests to the server, we've seen about 250 or so be significantly slow, which may slow down and hold up performance for a relatively short while (20-40 seconds). This is caused by searching. The solution to this is to move all searching functions to a third server, which we will be installing this afternoon, and configuring early next week.

Bottomline, by next week, we will have three servers running the forums, and hopefully this will fix the slowdown issues that have been sporadically experienced by you guys in the recent past.

-Wayne

Okay, I've now added the third server, this one is setup as a default server for searching the forums. We'll see how the speed is improved (or not so improved) tomorrow.

Pls let me know what you think...

The site seems significantly faster to me. The appearance of most links in the 911 forum was taking several seconds before and now seems to take less a second in most cases.
